I guess everyone has dreamed of flying cars and looks like that might not be too far in the future. Due to high risk and uncertainty, a project like that might be hard to pull through in a traditional corporate environment. Thus Japanese Cartivator has pulled together an alternative approach - a group of volunteers who contribute their expertise to make this happen.

Instead of huge VC money financing the operations, Cartivator is looking crowdsourcing and corporate sponsorships for funds as well as looking into ways of saving costs while still being effective such as joint research.

For me this is a great example on what people with open minds and willingness to share and contribute can do to make a change happen. Best of luck and looking forward on following Cartivator's progress.
